Statement from Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum:

“My heart goes out to the families and friends of the three heroes who, while riding the max train in Portland last night, bravely took action against hate speech. We mourn the loss of two of them and pray for the recovery of the third. Thank you to law enforcement and witnesses who helped ensure immediate apprehension of the perpetrator. We honor our Muslim community which was so horribly disrespected on the eve of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Our entire state must come together to, once and for all, eradicate hatred and bigotry in whatever form.

If you believe that you or someone you know has been the victim of a hate crime, you should report the crime to your local police, county sheriff, or the Oregon State Police.

We also encourage you to report a crime to the Oregon Department of Justice using our online form at: https://justice.oregon.gov/crimereporting/hatecrime.

The Oregon Department of Justice will ensure your report is passed on to the appropriate authority for investigation.”
