On June 12, 2019, at 2 p.m. e.t., the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center will present an online Expert Q&A discussion with Andy Mao and Mark Lachs, M.D., M.P.H. on “Identifying Signs of Elder Abuse or Neglect.”

In October 2017, the Elder Abuse Prevention and Prosecution Act was signed into law. The law requires the U.S. Department of Justice to take a number of steps to both enhance its own efforts and to support the efforts of state and local prosecutors, law enforcement, and other elder justice professionals in preventing and combating elder abuse and financial exploitation. This session will explore the different forms of elder abuse, the role that dementia and other cognitive issues play, promising preventive measures, and some of the challenges of prosecuting such cases.

Note: This session will be recorded and posted on the Expert Q&A Past Sessions tab when available.
