Recent court decisions have enabled prosecutors to more easily introduce expert testimony in domestic violence cases (around dynamics and trauma), however there is a shortage of witnesses who feel prepared and able to testify as experts about sexual and domestic violence dynamics, as well as other related topics. This training aims to change that.
The training will primarily be geared toward advocates (both community and system-based) and police officers who have the requisite amount of professional and/or educational experience, as well as the willingness to act as expert witnesses in domestic violence and sexual abuse cases/trials around the state.
Applications are due March 23rd. Space is limited to THIRTY (30) attendees, to be selected based upon geographic diversity and experience in responding to domestic and sexual violence. Each agency/organization may submit up to two (2) applications for consideration (in the interest of building organizational capacity). Applicants from rural programs who have not sent anyone to a previous Expert Witness training hosted by the Coalition will be prioritized.
Scholarships covering lodging expenses are available to approved attendees from Coalition member programs 50+ miles away from the training location. Contact Keri Moran-Kuhn (link sends e-mail) for further information.
