March is a time to celebrate the strength, talents, and contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities while promoting greater understanding and inclusion in our communities. The Oregon Child Support Program is committed to providing equitable, accessible services that support all families. By fostering awareness and embracing diversity, we can help create a community where every individual is valued and empowered. Together, we can build a more inclusive future for everyone. Here are some resources where you can learn more about developmental disabilities and find ways to support inclusion and awareness.
Resources
The Office of Developmental Disabilities Services (ODDS) at the Oregon Department of Human Services strives to support the choices of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families by promoting and providing services that are person-centered and directed, flexible, community-inclusive, and supportive of the discovery and development of each individual’s unique gifts, talents, and abilities. Their brochure, Services for Children with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities, highlights available support to children and families.
The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities is made of 56 governor-appointed Councils on Developmental Disabilities (DD Councils) across the United States and its territories. The DD Councils receive federal funding to support programs that promote self-determination, integration, and inclusion for all people in the United States with developmental disabilities.
Hear Me! People with Developmental Disabilities Speak Out is a powerful, uncensored, and in-depth conversation with people with developmental disabilities about stigmas they encounter every day as well as their key relationships, experiences with education, and unique pathways to employment. As we listen to these stories, we realize we are far more alike than different. Everyone—including those of us with developmental disabilities—dreams of a bright future. Help us share the dream!
OurView: This podcast aims to raise awareness, educate, and change the tone of conversations about disabilities, and individuals who live with them.
